Wedding Photography can be a fantastic career if you learn some fundamental elements first. I learnt some of these things the hard way, by trial and error. The knowledge I can impart will really give you an advantage when you start to promote yourself as a wedding photographer. This course will help guide you from being a competent amateur photographer to becoming a professional wedding photographer.
The Wedding Photography Course
Course duration: 8 weeks (Monday nights: 7.30-9.30pm)
Course cost: £290 per person (Split payment option available)
Course venue: The Old Fire Station cafe, High Street, Crowborough, East Sussex TN6 2QB
Starts: Monday 4th February 2013 and repeats every Monday for a total of 8 weeks
There is a lot to being a wedding photographer, not just knowing how to use a camera, but how to market yourself, how to present yourself and how to progress.
Aims:
- To give you the skills and confidence to go from competent amateur to professional wedding photographer.
- To learn from each other: A private Faecbook group will be set up for members to have discussions and ask questions.
The Course:
- Week 1: Inspiration
We’ll take a look at some of the world’s best wedding photographers for inspiration. We’ll also look at non-wedding photographers, we can see how portrait and fashion photographers could influence your look. - Week 2: Equipment
We will discuss what equipment is really needed to become a wedding photographer, from basic set-ups to more advanced, depending on budget. - Week 3: Camera technique & Processing
In this session we discuss how to control your camera and how to use Adobe Lightroom to streamline your digital workflow. - Week 4: Pricing & Promotion
We discuss where to start your pricing and how and when to move it up. All irrelevant if you don’t promote yourself, so we discuss cost-effective ways of doing that. - Week 5: Experience & progression
Ideas to help you gain experience and progress with your wedding photography. - Week 6: Composition, Posing Groups and Lighting Techniques
How to compose and light your images is crucial, it will make the difference from amateur to professional looking shots. Natural light, on camera hotshoe flash and off-camera flash techniques will be covered. - Week 7: How to present yourself, Insurance & Societies
How to present and conduct yourself as a wedding photographer, how to cover yourself legally and how societies can help you. - Week 8: Branding & Website
A website is THE most important promotional tool, I can give you good advice on this and even offer you a website package at a very competitive rate.
At each session there will be chance to ask questions.
The function room at the Old Firestation is the perfect venue for this course. With access to a large TV I can plug in my laptop and walk you through aspects of the course and show you slideshows of images. There is also a large room that we can actually practice some of the techniques that we will talk about.
