I highly recommend taking a course with Andy if you want to take your photography further.
After the 6 month course of photo club in the pub I have come away with a fresh creative perspective, analytical, interpersonal and software skills that have helped take my pictures to another level entirely. Sharing photos with the other groups was a huge inspiration. I learnt a lot from other members as well as from Andy. The screencast feedback was a really valueable part of each assignment because I had something to take away and improve on from every month’s project.
I have just started the art photography course with Andy and I’m sure that will challenge me to expand my creative thinking further still.
Thanks Andy!

Having experienced several photographic courses over the years and never got to grips with the technical side of photography, I was actually at a place where I wanted to give up. My husband gave me a voucher for 1:1 tuition with Andy for my birthday as a last resort to help me.
From the moment I met Andy I knew that there was hope! I have now had several 1:1 sessions & have learnt so much in a very brief space of time. I have found that instead of blinding you with science, Andy pares things down so that the information makes sense & is completely user friendly.
Andy has to be THE most friendly, patient & understanding teacher ever. He is always very happy to go over things again & again. His enthusiasm is infectious & he is great to be around! I wholeheartedly recommend Andy for photographic tuition whether it be out in the field or in a classroom situation.

I was given the course as a Christmas present as I’ve been interested in photography for many years and just muddled along. I had been talking about doing a course for a while now, as it happens this fitted the bill perfectly!!
Other photographer’s photos always looked more professional and interesting than mine. They were ‘proper’ photos that grabbed your attention whereas mine just seemed to be snapshots, which, whilst capturing the scene never stood out and never encouraged any more than a glance.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my Photoclub in the pub course. It has pushed my boundaries, put me outside of my comfort zone on occasions and most importantly made me think more creatively and technically about my photography. A novel idea for a course, Andy adds his knowledge, enthusiasm and critique which all combine to put you at ease and coaxes out any ideas and potential.
Since undertaking the course, my enthusiasm for photography has been re-kindled with a vengeance. I now have a direction and lots to think about!!. I feel happy using the manual modes on my camera as well as getting into the photo processing software side of things too. Hopefully I will start to use my DSLR to more of it’s potential as many of the concepts Andy taught via the assignments are now starting to become second nature.
Many thanks Andy!!”

Great club. Lots of practical advice and inspiration. I enjoyed the monthly tasks which were supported by excellent source material. A really inspiring alternative to conventional camera clubs I have been to.

1-2-1 Photography Course
Having enjoyed taking photos for many years I was looking for a way of learning more without feeling like I was back in the classroom. The monthly meetings in the pub are a great way to do just this. I began my first course using a compact camera and by the end I knew I was then brave enough to move into the world of a digital SLR.
Once I had the camera I was happy taking photos on ‘Auto’ mode but with Andy’s 1-2-1 tution I left with a much better idea of how to use the camera and all it’s dials. Throughout the Photo club course he has continued to help me think about the technical aspects of the photos as well as their composition.
Seeing my photos in an exhibition at the end was great. Although thinking about framing and the order of the photos was something I hadn’t considered to be so challenging – but worthwhile!
Being able to also look at photos taken by others on the course was also very interesting and useful. It was always interesting to see how others had gone about taking photos with the ‘theme’ as our focus. It has given me something other than work to think about as I drive there and back each day along with any other journey – my camera is now always with me.
I’m looking forward to a year’s worth of Photo club starting next week. I just wonder what the first theme will be?!

Being a keen but inexperienced point and clicker I’d wanted to do a photography course for a while but had been consistently put off by the thought of sitting in a classroom at the end of a hard day in the office. The Club in the Pub course was bought for me as a present, but it was everything I’d been looking for.
Despite concentrating on exploring your creative side the course gave me plenty of opportunity to learn more technical aspects of photography. With a month for each assignment, there was plenty of time to practice and experiment; I learned more and more each time I picked up my camera and the quality of my shots improved with each assignment. I was never alone either, as Andy was always available to provide support and guidance through emails or texts, and the feedback at the next meeting was always invaluable to take into the next project.
With a different assignment each month the course also gave plenty of scope for delving into subject matters you might not normally photograph. I found myself really getting into things I’d never previously thought about photographing.
This course has inspired me to undertake a number of other projects already, 5 stars just doesn’t do it justice!

If you are looking for something other than the class room style photography course, this is for you.
Whether you are a total novice or an experience snapper who’s run out of ideas, the Photo Club in the Pub courses are informative and inspiring and will lead you to think more about you photography and improve your skills.
Andy’s enthusiastic approach to photography tuition and the relaxed atmosphere of a pub make an excellent change to the usual adult education classroom blackboard led lectures.
The course is set up as monthly assignments which are designed to make you think about your own photography, develop your technical skills and improve your eye for the creative shot. You’ll have the month to take your pictures and then submit your images to Andy who print them, ready for review at the following months meeting.
Andy’s advice and guidance during the meeting s and phone, text and email support during the assignments is invaluable, even if you are an experienced photographer.
This course is more than showing you how to use your camera to take a good photo. Its ultimate goal is for you to use your own creativity, to produce your own images, to be reproduced how you’d like them and to be exhibited at the end of the course in a gallery.
If you are looking for a casual and relax but informative and inspiring photography course this is for you.

I’d been taking photos on and off for years but never really had any idea what I was doing or why or how to use my camera properly, especially since everything went digital; there are so many knobs, dials, buttons and switches and the manual is so dense and off-putting that I was stuck using automatic. Doing a few courses with Andy has changed all that. Now I take raw images, I can do aperture priority and exposure compensation, I can work out depth of field and am tentatively starting to use a tripod to take photos in poor light. And I’m processing them more effectively. At last I am starting to use my camera properly. I think I am taking better photos… or at least I understand why if they aren’t technically ‘correct’!
The best thing is that taking photos has become an integral part of my life. I now always have my camera with me and am constantly thinking about what might make a good shot. Andy’s classes are a real pleasure – they are practical, relaxed, friendly and fun. We take photos and discuss the technical issues as we go along: landscape photography on Ashdown Forest or Cuckmere Haven; street photography in Brighton or London; the monthly meetings at the Fire Station cafe; or photo club in the pub. Group or individual. Andy has a lot to offer, all highly recommended. You will be inspired, have fun and learn a thing or two as well!
