Art Photo Studies

Art Photo Studies is a brand new course and is a bit like a part-time college or university course, but far more relaxed and aimed at those who are in employment but want some of the benefits of studying art photography. It is completely delivered online and you can work it around your lifestyle and be anywhere in the world. There are 6 modules in total, 5 of which will be assignments set by myself and one will be an overall body of work to one specific theme. You have 9 months to complete all 6 modules.

The course includes:

  • 5 set assignments for you to work on
These assignments will cover a range of topics, some of which will be theory based and some will be creative photography assignments.
  • 1 open assignment to create a larger body of work
This is an open brief to create 1 body of work over the 9 month period.
  • Video screencast feedback (20 images per module)
This has proved to be very popular in my Photoclub in the Pub courses and is extended to 10 images per assignment in this course.
  • Online live discussion forums to discuss ideas and projects (once a week)
I will be present at these at least once a month
  • At the end of the course you will be marked on all work and given a grade.

It’s important to say that there is no formal qualification for this course at the moment, but you will receive a detailed report from me at the end of the course charting your improvements and abilities. I hope that this will be useful to you if you want to go on and enjoy a career in photography.

Although this course is completely delivered online, I encourage any students who are local to each other to meet up and discuss their projects.

Over the period you would be expected to:

  • Demonstrate a good technical knowledge of your camera and practice
  • Visit photographic exhibitions
  • Write about your work and others
  • Produce creative work to a set brief and to your own brief
  • Produce prints

This course aims to give the student an understanding of working in a thematic way and producing high quality imagery to set and open briefs in a creative way.
