On Saturday 13th October I was a walk leader for the Tunbridge Wells Photowalk. This was part of a much larger event, The World Wide Photowalk which is an event run by American photographer Scott Kelby. Over 1,300 photowalks happening all around the world on the same day.

The group photo photo above is the gang that met up at Soup-Urb cafe in Tunbridge Wells before the walk. I handed out info sheets with a list of things to try and photograph which became a bit of an obsession for some ! ;-) The idea is just to try and kick-start the creativity a little bit and find photos that you perhaps wouldn’t have thought about taking before.

I should say that a photowalk isn’t really a photography course, it’s more of a social thing really. I do run photography courses too and you should see the Photography Courses menu to the left for more details.

The walk itself took about 3 hours of slow paced walking (and shooting) and by the end we were ready for a warm pub, a drink and a chat about the day’s events. Above all Photowalks are a really great fun and social event to take part in. I have made many good friends through doing photowalks over the years.

I decided to run a little pop-up exhibition of the images taken at the last photowalk and the good news is I have decided to run another Photowalk, at Christmas! The images will be on display and the meeting venue for the next Photowalk.

The next Photowalk will take place on Saturday 22nd December 2012 (1.30pm-6.00pm).

So why not get all of your Christmas shopping out of the way early this year and have a little bit of time for yourself. Click here to go to the course page and book!

So I recently launched my new website and here it is! Design wise I have reverted back to clean white pages to keep everything looking fresh. I have also re-designed the menu structure with drop-downs to simplify things.
Now-a-days I make my living through photography training, something I love dearly. Tuition and workshops have become really popular, especially in photography. I decided a little while back that if I was to be successful at this I would need to put 110% of my time and effort in to courses and to actually turn down commercial photography work. This is something I did and I’m pleased about. Apart from a few weddings, which I still love doing, all of my time goes in to the courses and workshops.

I think because I have invested a lot of time, I have got reasonably good at it. It’s one thing being able to take a photograph and quite another to be able to teach it. I’m learning all the time though, both with photography and how best to teach certain aspects of it, not to mention how to make it interesting. You will find lots of courses on my website, from 1-2-1 tuition to group creative courses, street photography courses and some more off-the-wall ones too. If any are of interest, please drop me an email or give me a call.

I mentioned I turn down commercial work in favour of doing tuition, so how can you be a photography tutor and not take any photos? Well I think you could probably do it, but for me I like to keep active and have that creative outlet. So I spend any spare time working on my personal projects, like Veins, Corresponding Landscapes, Channelled, The Ghyll etc. A lot of these projects can be useful to talk about when teaching too, so it fits in well.

I am slowly working my way through my archives (and new work), uploading galleries to the Photography Portfolio section. Work such as ‘Veins’, ‘Models’, ‘Runners’ or ‘Something Happened Here’ as pictured above. More work will appear over the coming days/weeks.
